Frequently Asked Questions
01
WHY SHOULD I BE INTERESTED IN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY?
Alternative energy has the advantage of being environmentally friendly. It is quiet, clean, requires little upkeep and is a good long term investment.

WILL I BE ABLE TO HEAT MY WATER OR COTTAGE WITH THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM?
It is a well known fact that any appliance that heats uses a lot of energy. We recommend using an instant propane hot water heater as well as 12V refrigerators for the most efficient heating and cooling. These items are available at Batteries Expert. As for heating your cottage/house we recommend using a wood burning, propane or oil stove.
29
HOW CAN I DECIDE WHICH OF THESE SYSTEMS, SUN OR WIND, IS THE BEST FOR MY REQUIREMENTS?
The choice of your system will be determined mostly by where you are situated. In the mountains or beside a lake, you would probably choose a wind turbine. While if you were beside a river or in a clearing , a solar system would be a better choice. A combination of both systems are suggested if you will be using your cottage year round.

HOW CAN WE EVALUATE IF WE HAVE ENOUGH SUN AND/OR WIND FOR OUR NEEDS?
The calculation is made according to medium monthly sunlight. Montreal is in the area that has the highest average sunlight in Canada. The minimum strength of wind required for a wind turbine can be compared to a breeze that will lift the edge of your coat. (an average of 19 km/h).

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO CONVERT MY HOUSE/COTTAGE TO AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SYSTEM?
Each family is unique in their use and needs for electricity. All Batteries Expert are equipped to calculate your needs. For example, for a family of four, which uses their cottage three seasons out of four, the week-end only, a basic alternative energy system using both solar and wind power would cost about $3350.00.
