How to store a battery ?

It’s time to put away the motorcycle, RV, and the Jet Ski? How will you take care of the battery? Must you take it out of the vehicle? Bring it inside in the warmth? Must you unplug the connectors? Here are only some of the questions you must ask yourself? Your battery only needs one thing, to be filled with energy!

Can a battery resist at - 60° celsius ?

QMay it be a car, motorised sports or RV: your battery can resist at extreme temperatures if they are efficiently charged. A 12 volts battery: if it is maintained at more than 12.6 volts, it can resist at - 60° Celsius. However, if it is discharged at 12.20 volts and less, it can freeze at only -20° Celsius (normal weather temperature for our beautiful region). A frozen battery is often not reusable.

Yes, but what if i keep my battery warmt inside ?

When we store a battery, it discharges a little every day, from about 0.5 to 1% per day, even if nothing is connected. After a period of about 3 months, the battery is discharged. In that state, the battery might be damaged if we do not recharge it as soon as possible. This can cause the battery to sulfate and no longer take the charge. This condition is an irreversible phenomenon.

The solution!

To counter these effects, we can either:
1. Recharge completely the battery with a good charger every two months.
2. We can simply install a 100% automatic maintenance charger that can recharge continually your battery without any worries.
